Decades of local service from Freda Mountain recognised by Chelmsford City Council
Freda Mountain has dedicated decades of her life to serving the local community. This was recognised at the recent Chelmsford council meeting, when Mrs Mountain was nominated as the first freewoman of the city.
Mrs Mountain has been a Liberal Democrat councillor for 25 years. However this award was for all her other charitable work locally. These include being a leading light in Age Concern, running the Tuesday and Friday lunch clubs for them, being a Mildmay Infant School governor, a trustee at Farleigh Hospice, and organising the Marie Curie daffodil collections.
Mildmay Infant School Head teacher, Maxine Bradford said: "I was thrilled to discover that Freda was being acknowledged for an award for her commitment to so many worthy causes. The community would not be the same without her."
Keith Andrew, chairman of Farleigh Hospice, added: "Freda's significant experience and commitment for Farleigh has contributed greatly to improving the quality of life for those needing services.
