Funding secured for Chelmsford Rangers
We're pleased to announce that we have secured new funding for Chelmsford Highway Rangers! The Rangers will be able to keep Chelmsford clean and tidy by:
- cutting back vegetation on footpaths
- washing street names & road signs
- painting some gates and structures
- minor maintenance work and general tidying
They will help smaller, everyday road and pavement jobs be completed more quickly. Larger works (like replacing road signs or repairing pavements) are still under the remit of Essex County Council. However, the rangers will tackle many everyday issues, as part of our commitment to keep communities cleaner, safer and more attractive for residents across Chelmsford.
Stephen Robinson, Leader of Chelmsford City Council said:
“The Liberal Democrats have listened to residents, voicing concerns about minor works on the streets not getting done (such as weeds in paths and damaged signs). They really should be done by Essex CC Highways but clearly they aren’t concerned – they cut the funding for Rangers three years ago and this has had a real impact. So I’m pleased that Lib Dem-led Chelmsford City Council has found the funding to create these new Ranger posts. We hope residents will notice a different to the tidiness of our streets over the coming months.”
