There's no need to travel to do your Christmas shopping as 50 free parking spaces are up for grabs on a first come, first served basis on Thursday 28 November and each Thursday in December until Christmas. 25 free tickets will be given out from 6pm at The High Chelmer Multi-Storey Car Park and 25 free tickets will be given out from 6pm at the Meadows Retail Multi-Storey Car Park (behind Iceland). With taxis waiting at your disposal, the Chelmer Valley Park & Ride operating until 9pm, and the Sandon Park & Ride operating until 7pm, getting home has never been so easy.

In the run up to Christmas many shops are open until 7.30pm on Late Night Shopping nights with some staying open even later. Shoppers are encouraged to check individual closing times of specific stores. You can win some amazing prizes and gifts for loved ones at the launch of Late Night Shopping on Thursday 28 November in the High Street, while being entertained by the soulful voices of the Big Sing Choir.

The Retail Market is perfect for picking up some decoration, cards and gift bargains, open seven days a week until 4pm weekdays and Sundays and 5pm on Saturdays from 26 November until Christmas. The High Street Gourmet and Street Trading Market will be open every day from Monday 16 December until Christmas.

Chelmsford City Council's Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, Councillor Michael Harris, said: "This parking promotion means that late night shopping in Chelmsford has never been easier. Residents should make the most of this as Chelmsford offers a variety of shops and produce in the markets, enabling shoppers to get the most out of their High Street. Late night shopping is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit, with the Christmas lights and atmosphere surrounding the High Street and markets."
