The man who came a close second in the race to be Chelmsford's MP in 2010 is hoping to make it this time. Stephen Robinson has been selected by the Liberal Democrats for the 2015 General Election campaign, which kicks off today.

In the 2010 General Election, Stephen Robinson came close to winning the new Chelmsford constituency, increasing the vote by 7% - one of the best Lib Dem results in Britain. A small, 4% swing would see Mr Robinson elected this time.

Since 2010 Mr Robinson has shown his election-winning skills, having won three council elections. He was elected as a Chelmsford City Councillor (for Patching Hall ward in May 2011), and Essex County Councillor for North Chelmsford in June 2012 and again in May 2013, in both cases by over 600 votes.

In those elections, as in all other Chelmsford elections, it was a clear choice between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives, with other parties out of the running.

In order to ensure a stronger economy in Chelmsford we need more high value jobs, so that people have the option of not travelling to London every day. That means jobs need to be created in Chelmsford faster than all those new houses are built.

For a fairer society, we need tax cuts for lower earners, not the council tax RISES delivered by Chelmsford Conservatives three years in a row, especially since they did not need the extra money.

Stephen helped ensure opportunity for everyone by doubling the number of 3 and 4 year olds in quality nursery education and ensuring free internet access in Essex libraries, as a councillor helping to run Essex County Council 1993-2000.

Stephen Robinson has lived in the Chelmsford area for 15 years with his family. His son goes to school in the heart of the constituency. He works in charity public relations and fundraising as well as being a Councillor.
