Something strange in Chelmsford town centre on Saturday
ESSEXstreetdiversions returns to Chelmsford for its ninth year on Saturday 1 October. As a part of this award winning international festival, all manner of curious characters will descend on this town centre with a grand finale by Bash Street Theatre from 5pm.
This year's line up will include performances never before seen in Chelmsford alongside the face of the festival "the Coneheads" performed by the Natural Theatre Company. Between 10.30am and 4.30pm the town will be filled with the weird, wonderful and downright bizarre, so don't be alarmed if you see a pair of dapper penguins, a giant lobster, comedic nannies, an unsavoury litter-picker or even crazy hair sculptors all the way from Spain!
Other strange sights to look out for include: a science laboratory situated in High Chelmer, Alfonso Milano's Mechanical Marvel, and a pram with baby vegetables sleeping inside!
At 5pm follow the Conehead guides who will lead the way to this year's two part finale at the Bond Street Amphitheatre opposite Loch Fyne. The show kicks off with a performance by French Dance Company Pied en Sol and will be followed by the much anticipated return of Bash Street Theatre to the festival with their new show "The Station".
This year's gripping finale is set in a dilapidated railway station in the age of steam locomotives. Be prepared for a dramatic train crash, a daredevil rescue and some great comedy action from this award-winning street theatre company.
Chelmsford Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ray Ride, said: "ESSEXstreetdiversions has put Chelmsford on the cultural map. It is a showcase for some of the most imaginative street theatre in the world and the event has been embraced by the whole town over previous years."
With so much entertainment packed into one day, the best way to get the latest information is to visit the Council's website at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/streetdiversions or find 'Essex streetdiversions' on facebook.
