Maldon Church launches fundraiser after racist attacks on organ installers

11 Oct 2020

St Mary's Church in Maldon has been facing up to a cold reality after what appears to be two separate targeted attacks against their German organ installers.

Work began in September on the new installation after years of hard work and fundraising. The new organ was built in Germany and has recently arrived in the UK to take pride of place in the St Mary's Church, just off Maldon High Street.

All has been going to plan until one evening the installers returned to their van to find extensive paintwork damage from the vehicle being keyed.

While all involved hoped this would prove to be an unfortunate and isolated incident, that wasn't to be the case. A second targeting of the van has since taken place. The van was found covered in flour and water this time.

Maldon Liberal Democrats condemn these heinous acts on hard-working installers, trying to improve the facilities in our town. As such we are pleased to support the Chair of the organ restoration project with their new GoFundMe to try to ensure the installers are not out of pocket.
