The group looking into the future of Shire Hall (at the top of High Street, Chelmsford) is urging people to submit their comments and expressions of interests before the closing date of 15 February 2013.

Essex County Councillor Dick Madden, Chairman of the Shire Hall Reference Group, said: "We've received a number of responses and we will now examine these in more detail, along with feedback from the parallel commercial exercise. Our aim all along has been to secure a long-term future use for Shire Hall which is sustainable and provides value for money and essentially we want it to remain a building for the community."

On the temporary closure of Shire Hall for structural work to be carried out, Councillor Madden said: "Although Shire Hall is temporarily closed, I do hope this won't detract anyone from coming forward with their ideas and comments. Shire Hall is over 200 years old and it is not uncommon for historic buildings like this to need some extra care and attention. I want to reassure everyone the recent temporarily closure will not disrupt our progress with the consultation or our overall aim to find a use for this much-loved building."

All responses to the consultation will be taken into consideration and reviewed against their potential to meet Essex County Council's objectives and ability to address constraints on use. Where necessary, further information may be requested.
