Liberal Democrats in Chelmsford and nationally have been campaigning to save the local Post Office network for many years. Thousands have closed under both Conservative and Labour governments.

Here in Chelmsford, a number have closed in recent years: Broomfield; Duke Street; Kings Road; Queens Road; Trent Road; and one in Great Baddow.

On 17 May 2007 the Government announced the closure of a further 2,500 Post Offices around the country. In April 2007, the Post Office announced plans to

transfer Chelmsford's main Post Office to W H Smith.
