Election Campaigns & Results in Chelmsford
General Election: the Prime Minister could call an election any time from now to mid May (last legally possible date for an election is 3 June). There are no council elections planned for Chelmsford in 2010, though some other areas in Essex and elsewhere will have them on 6th May. So that is a likely day for the General Election too. Stephen Robinson will be bidding to become the first Liberal MP for Chelmsford since Sydney Robinson (no relation!). Liberal Democrats were a close second in the last General Election, and ahead of the Conservatives in the 2009 local elections. The Lib Dems will build on that to win at the coming election. Labour and other minor parties are out of the race and have no councillors elected here. Labour won only 10% of the vote here in 2007 and just 7% in 2009. In the Chelmsford constituency, the Lib Dems just need a 4% swing from the 2005 result to win the seat from the Conservatives. Labour are in a poor third place. 4th June 2009: The European Parliament election result is here (euro result). The Essex County Council result in Chelmsford constituency was: Lib Dems 5 seats; Conservative 0.5 seats (half outside the constituency); Others None
