Liberal Democrats set out vision for Britain

Lib Dem Party Leader Nick Clegg has set out his party's vision for Britain in a new document called 'Make It Happen'. Chelmsford Lib Dem Stephen Robinson commented, "The document discusses income tax cuts across the board; real action to cut crime and improve health & education; and reforming the political process to give everyone a voice."

Nick Clegg's ideas include:

• Cut the basic rate of tax for everyone - from 20p to 16p

• If your local hospital can't see you on time, they will pay for treatment elsewhere

• Switch taxes from people to pollution - so it pays to go green

• To improve standards in education, fund extra help for those who need it most

• Put Britain at the heart of Europe to make us a force for good in the world

• Stop the ID database so we can keep control of our privacy

• Change the voting system so everyone's voice counts

• Bring communities together with local people in charge

• Give communities a say in how offenders pay for their crimes

Stephen Robinson, (Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Chelmsford) added, "Make It Happen sets out a new direction. Everyone in Chelmsford is affected by the rising costs of living. This document sets out how we can help those lower and middle income families through the credit crunch.

"But we must not lose sight of the need to switch towards more environmentally-friendly lifestyles. I believe the proposals set out offer a real alternative to the Labour and Conservative parties."
