Chelmsford Residents hit hard by rising prices - Stephen Robinson10.05.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 25th Jul 2008
Local residents in Chelmsford are being hit hard by rocketing costs and the Lib Dems are running a "Fair Deal for Britain" campaign in response. Said the Lib Dems Westminster candidate Stephen Robinson: "It doesn't matter how much you earn, all of us are paying more when we buy basic groceries, pay the gas bill or fill up the car. Stephen Robinson added, "Everyone I meet is worried about rising prices. There is also fear about job losses and repossessions as house prices fall. People want to see action from Gordon Brown, but nothing seems to be happening. "We need action now. The Lib Dems want to cut income tax by 4p for everyone and tax pollution more; replace council tax with a fairer local tax; and more affordable housing. Back this by signing our petition www.cmld.org.uk/petitions/9/sign-new.html "Gordon Brown and Labour are simply out of touch with real life in Chelmsford. It is time for a change - but not the vague, uncosted offer from the Conservatives. That is why I am delighted to be backing Nick Clegg's campaign "Make it Happen": www.libdems.org.uk/index_makeithappen.html "Hardest hit are those on fixed incomes, like pensioners. The Lib Dems want a big rise in the basic pension. Pensioners have been let down by Conservative and now Labour Governments. We need to give older people a fair deal at last."
